Free PSTAR practice Regulations – Canadian Airspace

An aircraft cruising VFR in level flight above 3,000 feet AGL on a track of 290°M shall be flown at an

  1. Aeven thousand foot altitude.
  2. Beven thousand plus 500 foot altitude.Correct answer
  3. Codd thousand foot altitude.
  4. Dodd thousand plus 500 foot altitude.

Why this is the answer

Above 3,000 ft AGL the hemispheric rule (CAR 602.34) keys on magnetic track: 180°–359° (westbound) flies even-thousands plus 500 for VFR. A track of 290°M is westbound, so the correct VFR altitude is an even-thousand-plus-500 (e.g. 6,500 ft).
