Frequently asked questions
How Ready for Solo works, what it costs, and what it does — and doesn’t — claim.
Getting started
What is Ready for Solo?
Ready for Solo is the training partner for the hours between your flight lessons — built by working Canadian pilots, aligned with the Transport Canada syllabus. It pulls together written-exam practice that learns what you keep getting wrong (PSTAR, PPL, CPL, IFR), radio calls graded against real-sounding Canadian ATC, and Mae — an AI instructor who explains every miss and plans what to drill next.
Do I need to download anything?
No — Ready for Solo runs in your browser. There’s nothing to install and no app store. It works on a laptop, tablet, or phone, and your progress lives in your account, so you can pick up on any device right where you left off.
Is the free PSTAR mock really free?
Yes — a full 50-question PSTAR test in the real format, graded instantly, with the answer and an explanation on every question. No account, no card. If you make an account afterward, your result comes with you.
Plans & billing
How much does it cost?
$29 CAD per month, or $228 CAD per year — four months free, a saving of $120. Every plan starts with a 3-day free trial. Prices are in Canadian dollars; applicable taxes are added at checkout.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The 3-day free trial doesn’t ask for a card — you get full access first, then decide. The promise is exactly that: start free, 3 days, no card.
What happens after the free trial?
If you choose to continue, you add a card and your subscription begins. If you don’t, nothing is charged and your progress is kept for 30 days in case you come back. You can cancel any time.
Do you offer refunds?
The no-card trial is the refund: you try the whole product free before paying anything, so there’s nothing to refund up front. After that you’re only billed if you choose to continue, and you can cancel any time. See our refund policy for the details.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. You can cancel from your account at any time, and you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
The product
Which exams and licences do you cover?
PSTAR (the pre-solo written), PPL, CPL, and IFR — all aligned with the Transport Canada syllabus.
What is Mae?
Mae is the AI flight instructor at the centre of the product — she explains a missed question the way an instructor would, walks your radio calls, and plans your next session against your weak spots. She’s an AI, pointed at Canadian flight training.
Trust & honesty
Is Ready for Solo affiliated with or endorsed by Transport Canada?
No. We’re an independent study tool, built by working Canadian pilots and aligned with the TC syllabus. We reproduce the official PSTAR questions under Transport Canada’s own reproduction grant (TP 11919E), but we are not endorsed by Transport Canada.
Are the ATC voices real recordings?
No — the air-traffic-control voices in Radio are AI-generated, and we tell you so. They’re built to sound like real Canadian ATC so your readbacks get graded against realistic phraseology.
