An aircraft is “cleared to the circuit” where a left hand circuit is in effect. Without further approval from ATC a right turn may be made to

  1. Ajoin the final leg.
  2. Bjoin the base leg.
  3. Cjoin crosswind or a partial right turn to join the downwind leg.Correct answer
  4. Ddescend on the downwind leg.

Why this is the answer

Cleared 'to the circuit' for a left-hand circuit, a right turn is permitted only to join crosswind or as a partial right turn onto downwind (TC AIM-RAC, Initial Clearance) — not to cut directly to base or final.
