A pilot flying a heading of 270°, receives the following message from ATC, “Traffic 2 o’clock, 5 miles, eastbound”. This information indicates the traffic is

  1. A60° to the left, altitude unknown.
  2. B60° to the right, altitude unknown.Correct answer
  3. C90° to the right, at same altitude.
  4. D90° to the left, at same altitude.

Why this is the answer

Per the TC AIM, clock-code traffic is relative to the nose, so “2 o'clock” is about 60° to the right; without Mode C altitude reporting, altitude is unknown. The “12 o'clock” datum and the right side make 60° right correct.
